Jakarta, Bimas Islam — The Ministry of Religion opened a speech to strengthen the management of zakat and wakaf professions through the formation of functional departments of Zakat and Wakaf Analysts. The idea was presented to the Secretary of the Religious Moderation and Development Body of the Ministry of Religion, Wawan Djunaedi, when giving instructions on the Kick Off Training Based on Zakat and Wakaf Competence Field in the year 2026 online, Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Wawan said, the professions in the field of zakat and wakaf have a strategic role in supporting the management of religious social funds. However, until now, the profession has not had a career development path as strong as the professions of leaders and religious leaders who have had their own functional posts.
“This is a very old duty and function in the environment of the Ministry of Religion. But professionally, there is no successor who has already had a functional office of chief or a religious officer who has had a functional office of religious officer,” said Wawan.
According to him, strengthening the profession becomes important because the management of zakat and wakaf requires human resources that have competence, integrity, as well as clear professional recognition. Therefore, the development of functional posts assessed can be one of the strategic steps to strengthen the national ecosystem of zakat and wakaf.
Wawan revealed, the idea has been part of internal discussions in the Ministry of Religion environment. In fact, when the Head of the Religious Moderation and Development Board of the SDM delivered an exhibition to the Minister of Religion some time ago, there was a suggestion that the tasks and functions of zakat and wakaf should have more structured functional support.
“We can propose the functional office of Analyst Zakat and Wakaf. If you want to be more broad, it can also be developed into a Religious Philanthropy Analyst so that it covers various sectors of religious philanthropy,” he said.
In recent years, the field of zakat and wakaf has grown rapidly, both in terms of regulation, management practices, and scientific development in religious colleges.
Wawan explains, at present there have been many colleges that have opened the study program of management of zakat and wakaf. The conditions indicate that the field of zakat and wakaf has developed into a discipline that requires a more clear and sustainable space for professional development.
In addition to encouraging the strengthening of professions, Wawan also appreciated the implementation of the Integrated Training Certification of Professions Amil and Nazir in 2026.
“With this training and certification, will be born professionals and managers in the field of zakat and wakaf who have competence according to the needs of modern management,” he said.
According to him, this strengthening of competence is in line with the attention of the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar who continues to promote the optimization of the management of zakat and wakaf as an instrument for empowering the people.
“The Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar always reminded that the great potential of religious social funds needs to be supported by a professional, transparent and accountable governance system so that the benefits are more widely felt by the community. Therefore, the strengthening of SDM’s competence and professionalism becomes one of the important foundations in building a sustainable zakat and wakaf ecosystem.”
Meanwhile, Zakat and Wakaf Development Director Waryono Abdul Ghafur welcomed various efforts to strengthen the profession in the field of zakat and wakaf. According to him, increasing the capacity of human resources is an important part of the construction carried out by the Ministry of Religion to strengthen the administration of zakat and wakaf.
“We look forward to the birth of SDM zakat and wakaf who are not only technically competent, but also have strong integrity and professionalism. Strengthening capacity, professional certification, and career development is part of the joint initiative to present the management of zakat and wakaf that increasingly impacts the well-being of the people,” Waryono said.
The training program is the result of the collaboration of the Directorate of Education of the Ministry of Religion and Wakaf Ministry of Religion with the SDM Education and Religion Development Competence Development Center of the Ministry of Religion, the BAZNAS Education and Training Center, the Indonesian Wakaf Training Agency, the Indonesian Wakaf Ministry of Education and Religion Training Center, the Indonesian Wakaf Ministry of Education and Religion Development and the Ministry of Religion of the Ministry of Religion. The implementation of learning and competence tests are also supported by the Jakarta, Bandung, and Semarang School of Religion.
Through the program, 180 participants were selected to follow the training and certification of the profession after passing the selection of a total of 647 registrants who came from various institutions of management of zakat and wakaf. The participants consisted of 90 candidates and 90 candidates who will follow the integrated learning to the competence test.
